Coral Reef Restoration in Mauritius and Seychelles Puts Local People at the Heart of Ocean Recovery

The Adaptation Fund and UNDP-backed Coral Restoration Project is rebuilding reef ecosystems across Mauritius, Seychelles, and Rodrigues Island by training former fishers and coastal residents in restoration techniques and identifying heat-tolerant coral colonies that survived past bleaching events; one Seychelles partner has grown between 800 and 1,000 coral fragments on a single nursery structure, with more than 19,000 corals outplanted across restoration sites.
