Cheap Daily Supplements May Boost Brain Functions in Older People
Reported byScienceAlert ↗·Sourced by Goodlede
A 2024 rigorous twin study published in Nature Communications found that daily protein and prebiotic supplements (inulin and fructooligosaccharide) improved memory test scores in people over 60 within 12 weeks. The findings have inspired the PRECODE clinical trial at Wageningen University, enrolling participants over 60 to test three distinct dietary fibers for 26 weeks with regular brain scans and cognitive assessments, with results expected in 2027.
Results are from lab studies and early human trials; long-term cognitive protection against dementia remains to be established.
