Brazil court orders recognition of Indigenous land and apology for historic atrocities

A federal judge in Brazil ordered the government to recognize the traditional territory of the Kajkwakratxi-Tapayuna Indigenous people within 24 months, issue a public apology, and pay 10 million reais ($2 million) in collective moral damages for documented massacres, forced displacement, and human rights violations spanning decades.

The court order is binding but implementation depends on government compliance over the next two years.
