A new estimate based on parasitoid wasp surveys in Costa Rica suggests at least 14 million insect species exist on Earth, doubling current estimates of insect biodiversity.
Though substantially more species than previously known, it's a baseline from which to observe and quantify the "insect apocalypse" that's been happening in parts of the world.
